Workshop Objectives and Scope

The unprecedented growth of electronic data and ever-increasing user dependence on electronic data in today's world suggests that data should be regarded as one of the most important assets of the users. On the other hand, the last decade has witnessed tremendous increase in globalization. This has created a strong need for global-scale data repository systems, which store different kinds of user data of varying sensitivities and allow their users transparent access to data. Such data repositories can be significantly beneficial to users in several ways. For example, they can facilitate users in accessing any data in real-time from anywhere at anytime. Moreover, they can serve as data warehouses and provide archival data storage services to their users. Additionally, given the tremendously large amounts of data that can be expected to be in such repositories, data mining can also be done on these repositories to identify and analyze trends. Due to their tremendous usefulness, these global-scale data repositories have opened many new and interesting avenues for research in academia as well as in industry. The first two GRep workshops, namely GRep 2005 and GRep 2006, were organized successfully in conjunction with DEXA 2005 and DEXA 2006 respectively and resulted in significant fruitful discussions among academic and industrial researchers concerning the problems arising from global data management.

The objective of GRep 2007 is to bring together researchers from academia and industry once again and provide a forum for the discussion of novel and interesting solutions to the problems currently faced by global-scale data repositories.

Given that such global-scale data repository systems can be expected to have a large number of possibly distributively-owned and geographically distributed servers, several issues need to be addressed to make such data repositories work effectively in practice. In the context of the general theme of the workshop concerning global-scale data management, suggested topics for this workshop include (but are NOT limited to) the following:

P2P environments
GRIDs
Data Storage and Management
Data Indexing
Data Integration
Data Semantics
Data Replication
Dynamic Data Placement Issues
Load-balancing
Query Processing and Query Optimization
Resource Allocation and Scheduling
Heterogeneity in the environment
Performance Evaluation
Security, Trust and Privacy Mechanisms
Data Semantics
Federated databases
Global-Scale Distributed Applications and Experiences
Data Mining
Data Warehousing

Paper Submission Details

Authors are invited to submit original and previously unpublished research contributions in English. Papers should be formatted according to IEEE guidelines (10 point font, two-column format), with the maximum permissible length for a paper being 5 pages in the above format. All papers will be reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee. Submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, overall impact, technical depth and clarity of presentation.

Papers should be submitted via email to anirban@tkl.iis.u-tokyo.ac.jp on or before March 25, 2007 11:59 PM PST.

For further inquiries, please contact the Workshop Program Co-Chairs:

WORKSHOP ATTENDANCE

One of the authors of accepted papers must register for the DEXA 2007 Conference and present the paper in the workshop. All accepted papers will be published by the IEEE in a volume of proceedings of the DEXA 2007 workshops. For details concerning the DEXA Conference, please refer to http://www.dexa.org/
